How To Install BuddyPress On WordPress 3.0

03 Nov 2010

BuddyPress was conceived in 2008 while working to add social networking features to a WordPress MU powered site. The first official stable release was in May 2009. The platform has grown and morphed considerably since then, into the dynamic, easily extensible package you see today.

Just like its parent project WordPress, BuddyPress is a completely open source endeavor.

Installing BuddyPress is as simple as 1-2-3.

1. Download and install WordPress.

2. Head to your “Plugins > Add New” menu in wp-admin. Search and install ‘BuddyPress’.

3. Make sure you have permalinks enabled on your WordPress install, then activate a BuddyPress compatible theme. There is an awesome bundled theme you can enable under “Appearance”.

You’re all done! If you want to enable the group forums support you can follow the instructions under “BuddyPress > Forums Setup”.

Since the advent of WordPress 3.0, regular WordPress and WordPress MU has now been merged together. In other words, if you have upgraded your blog to WordPress 3.0, you have the features of MU built right in.

For any tips or tricks on custom installation you can contact me or write a comment below. I would love to help you out
