The Firm is a legal thriller, based on the the novel of 1991 with the same name by John Grisham.
There are a lot of lawyers and aspiring lawyers that are doing their best to be at the top of their chosen field. In The Firm, Mitch McDeere (Tom Cruise) is one of those people.

Tom Cruise stars as Mitch McDeere, who’s a law Graduate, from Harvard Law School. Blessed with a promising future in Law, he’s offered a job in Bendini, Lambert & Locke, ‘The Firm’, with no choice but to join. This makes him shift to Memphis where his firm is located along with his wife.
But something is not right here! Mitch is totally unaware and unconscious of portending evil and wicked side of his company. He’s showered upon with hefty gifts and valuables, including a luxury car and a house. As the story unfolds further, things were just going fine until one fine day when two of the associates from the firm are murdered mysteriously. Soon after the investigation begins and out of all the employees at the firm, the FBI contacts him for every and any piece of information available and what comes next gives him the shock of his life! The FBI informs him that The Firm is connected to the mob and any associate who has ever tried to leave The Firm, has ended up murdered. And as clearly put, his life is changed forever. He has a two alternatives to his choice – work with the FBI and risk being discovered by The Firm, or stay with The Firm knowing that at some point he will get involved with laundering mob money and in the end go to jail when the FBI cracks The Firm. And either way he loses his life.
Mitch formulates a master plan which has a double edged sword allowing him on one hand to cooperate with the FBI by finding proof that all partners from The Firm were guilty of overbilling, while at the same time reaching an agreement with the mob Morolto brothers. Furthermore, using his intelligence he succeeds in executing his masterplan while being in his circumfrence, and that too while abiding by all the laws and without breaking any of them.
